The Samulnori Percussion EXS24 KONTAKT is an excellent sample library for the latest in Kontakt 5. It features a wide range of traditional Korean percussion instruments, many of which are played here for the very first time. In all, there are 1,070 samples across 91 instruments! The instruments included in this Kontakt 5 set include: • South Korea's sanjo jeonggu—a bamboo orchestra using a variety of wooden and metal clappers to play a rhythmically intricate accompaniment part to accompany the melody vocal. • North Korea's daegeum—played with two bamboo sticks tipped with leather or horsehair to produce a varied drum-like sound that is used as an important lead instrument in both north and south styles of chamber music. • A twelve-hole gangshimejo—a long, high-pitched Korean flute played by breathing in and out of the holes. • Seoul's geomungo—a 12-string zither with a sweet, melancholy sound. • A seonjongdo—a single reed aerophone played in a large gourd or wooden bell. • Various woodblocks including ching, kkwaenggwari, junggeuk and eumak. • The Jeonju operetta choir—whose beautiful, languid harmonies are featured in all corners of South Korea. • The Janggu ensemble—played with two large metal drums and two pairs of bamboo sticks. • Korean drums known as the sajang. • Korean flutes including the rerianbuk, jeonggweomungo, jeonggweo and thosang.
